Ishigaki Island, Part 1

Less than one week before we arrived, a category 4 typhoon (hurricane) hit Ishigaki island directly. There were still many areas without power and I've never seen so many up-rooted trees! Luckily the Okinawans build just about everything out of concrete, so the damage wasn't too bad.

Dave and I spent a whole day on Iriomote Island. We took a boat cruise and hike through the jungle. Dave enjoyed the time in the jungle (it was raining and muddy) more than I, so that's why I'm posting a picture of him. I did not smile for my jungle pictures...haha.

This is a video of our water-buffalo ride in Iriomote. The man in the front of the cart is playing the Sanshin ( 3 stringed, banjo-like instrument from Okinawa). Again, the scenery would have been much more beautiful had a category 4 hurricane not come through 6 days earlier.

Hey Dave and Emily,
Ishigaki looks awesome even with the hurricane! It looks a little like the land time forgot with the water, the destruction, and the water buffalo transport:) Dave smiling in the jungle sounds about right. He did always like the outdoors. Tom
